Republic Day is celebrated to commemorate India's becoming of an Independent Republic. On this day, the Indian Constitution came into effect as the governing document of India in the year 1950
Republic Day is celebrated with a grand parade on the Rajpath in Delhi, which starts from the Rashtrapati Bhavan (residence of the Indian President) and ends at the India Gate. On a smaller scale, the day is celebrated with great fervour in schools, with march-past and several patriotic performances given by children.
Since the Constitution came into effect in 1950, the Indian Republic Day has always been officially celebrated at the Rajpath. During the festival, the President of India hoists the national flag and recognises the country's brave citizens with gallantry awards. Vibrant tableaux of different states are displayed, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of India. Another attraction that makes Rajpath a must-visit is the spectacular parade of the Indian Armed Forces that reflect the military prowess of the country.
