The Northern Ridge or Kamla Nehru Ridge, which represents the last spur of one of the oldest Aravalli mountain ranges, played a significant role in the first war of Indian independence movement. The heritage monuments showing the marks of revolt are now connected with a heritage corridor, which provides visitors India's past built-up history. Over a longer period of urbanisation of the city, the ridge had lost its natural heritage and was replaced by invasive mesquite trees. The degraded Northern Ridge has been ecologically restored to its pristine glory through the development of diverse plant communities of the Aravallis.
The topography and terrain of the ridge makes it one of the major recharging zones of ground aquifers and one can see how rainwater percolates through fault and fractures of the rock system.
