This October, the Commonwealth Games of 2010 will bring Delhi alive with festivity, visitors and of course, lots of sporting action. For Delhi, the capital of India and the host of a prestigious international sporting event, it will be a time to celebrate its people, its values and the country at large. Delhi will truly be celebrating !


Come September the initiative titled, Delhi Celebrates! will launch a two month long festival with cultural performances from all corners of the country. From Bharat Natyam to contemporary fusion dance, Carnatic vocal to, folk, to the many different genres of theatre and art Delhi will come alive with culture in all its vibrance.


As part of the Delhi Celebrates! initiative:

  • Cultural performances will begin on 3 September 2010 with a concert in Nehru Park, and continue till 4 November 2010, with many of India finest artists proudly showcasing India unique cultural heritage and traditions to the world.
  • The Government of Delhi will host a range of events at different venues across the city including the Qutub Minar, Chandni Chowk, Dilli Haat and Purana Quila.
  • The Ministry of Culture, Government of India will organize an elaborate series of programmes at their museums and cultural centres such as the National School of Drama, Lalit Kala Academy and Sangeet Natak Academy.

However, Delhi Celebrates! is not just a series of Government-organized events. It is a festival that will electrify every corner of the city from schools and colleges to RWAs, hotels, art galleries, shopping hubs, media and more.As a social initiative, it will strive to improve community development, reinforce local identity and promote social inclusion and city pride. In other words, it will invigorate the citizens to proudly proclaim I am a Delhiite!


Delhi Celebrates!, is unique in its campaign, in that it does not only showcase the city it is named after but also all parts of India that are represented here in the Capital. The idea of showcasing the country AND the city is a first-ever vis-a-vis other games-related campaigns launched by other host cities
